About

Today Fallin is a thriving village on the outskirts of Fallin. The 2011 Census shows a population of 2,960, and many changes to the lifestyle from past years. The old substandard housing blocks have long since been demolished and many been new homes have been built.  Industrial sites have been converted to parks, open spaces and sports facilities. Some of the big differences from the past are that the majority of the residents now live in owner-occupied homes (56%), and most people now own at least one car (72%). The population is better educated, with many people (33%) holding degree or professional level qualifications, and also healthier with 72% reporting no long term health conditions.

The Polmaise-Murray Mining Museum is situated at the former entrance to Polmaise 3 & 4, displaying a range of equipment used at the mine; the information boards in the display have recently been refurbished. Other than the much reduced bing, the memorials, and a few railway tracks in the ground, there is little trace remaining of the colliery.

The village has a small range of shops that cater for basic needs, a Health Centre and a Library. The Gothenburg pub and Miners Welfare are still an important part of village life, as is the Miner’s Welfare. The Alpha Centre is now an important community resource, where you can find a range of programmes including a Youth Drop-in, Swinging 60's, Beavers, Sport Start, IT Training, and Toddler group.

In 1967 Fallin Primary School was moved from it’s site near the church to a new building at Lamont Crescent; the building was refurbished in 2004 and currently caters for 243 pupils. There is a nursery adjacent to the school.

Fallin is a welcoming community and life moves on – the village looks forward to the future.
